An exciting design for a progressive private owner the MV Huskyan is a fully custom design dive support vessel for advanced dive expeditions around the Orkney Islands. The brief was for a vessel of commercial standard with comfortable finish providing safe and efficient diving support followed by relaxing après-dive. Replacing a converted wooden fishing vessel with a modern large volume steel hull had to be carried out in a careful and considered manner to ensure the seakeeping and comfort of the old vessel were not lost as a compromise for more space, modern materials and efficiency.

She is developed from our fishing vessel lines with proven seakeeping qualities. The hull shape adjusted for the lack of gear and hold weight and refined for efficient free running steaming. She is fitted with twin propulsion for two reasons, future progression to more faraway adventures as an MCA Category 0 vessel and to allow careful positioning of the vessel on dive sites.

The input form the owners, both experienced divers, meant we were free to provide the hull platform and the space they required while they specified the required equipment and layout in what has been described as a “wish list” dive boat.

The end result delivered by Brian Newbery of Newbery engineering and final fit-out by the owners is a credit to the team and we hope severed the Scapa Flow dive industry well for many years.
